Good Food Starts with a Good Planet
At Nestlé India, we're working with thousands of Indian farmers to grow food that's better for your baby - and better for the planet. Every bite your child takes begins at the farm.
Our Promise
From Farm to Spoon
Three pillars that guide how we grow, source, and produce food for your little one.
Regenerative Farming
We work directly with farmers across Telangana (rice) and Punjab (wheat) to adopt regenerative agriculture - reducing chemicals, improving soil health, and protecting water resources for future generations.
30-35% less chemical fertilizers
Water Stewardship
Our rice sustainability project achieved approximately 45% reduction in water consumption per MT of paddy through Alternate Wetting & Drying (AWD) techniques - saving 470M litres of water every season.
~470M litres water savings in rice
Lower Emissions
We've achieved a 70% reduction in Scope 1+2 GHG emissions per ton of product across Nestlé India operations (vs 2018 baseline), and a remarkable ~51% emission reduction across our rice supply chain.
70% GHG reduction (Scope 1+2)
The Grain Story
Rice & Wheat - Grown the Right Way
Every grain that goes into your baby's cereal is cultivated using regenerative agriculture practices — traceable, sustainable, and verified.
Low-Emission Rice Project
📍 Sourced from Telangana (3 districts)
- 100% of rice used in Nestlé baby cereals is grown using Regenerative Agriculture.
- ~45% water savings- from ~3,250 litres to ~618 litres per kg of paddy using Alternate Wetting & Drying (AWD). 5 million litres of Water saved
- 100% crop residue burning avoided— residue managed sustainably using decomposers and mixed back into soil.
- 26% reduction in nitrogen fertilizer use through biological nutrient enhancement (Oorjit Granules applied to 2,521 acres).
- ~40% GHG emission reduction (679 kgCO₂e/MT) — verified via Cool Farm Platform V3.0.
- 3.5% improvement in soil organic carbon, a key measure of soil health.
- 38% of farmers have started using organic fertilizers as a result of the project.
- Monitored via FieldKhata & S3 Sutra apps- full digital traceability from farm to mill with geofencing and audit trail.
Wheat Sustainability Project
📍 Sourced from Punjab
- 100% of wheat used in Nestlé baby cereals is grown using Regenerative Agriculture.
- Super Seeder technology— enables zero-tillage and residue incorporation, eliminating the need for stubble burning.
- 30-35% less chemical fertilizer through Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) combining bio-fertilizers: Jeevamrut, Neemastra, and Nano Urea.
- 172,800 litres of water saved per acre per season through reduced irrigation cycles (from 5 to 4 cycles).
- 10-15% increase in Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) via biochar application for long-term carbon storage.
- Digital monitoring through the Vikshep platform using satellite and ML technology (Sentinel, Landsat) to track soil moisture and crop health in real-time.
- Farmer training & peer learning- expert workshops, demo plots, and digital tracking apps for informed decision-making and community-wide adoption.
- Significantly lower N₂O emissions from reduced urea use, contributing to climate resilience.
