Quality at Every Step: Inside the Nestlé NANGROW Factory
Watch Soha Ali Khan & Dr Nihar witness the quality protocols at the Nestlé NANGROW Factory
In this second episode of the Nestlé NANGROW Transparency Tour, Soha Ali Khan & Dr Nihar Parekh visit the Nestlé factory in Samalkha, Haryana, to explore the "Quality at Every Step".
From Village Farms to Factory Gates
The journey of quality begins long before the milk reaches the factory. Nestlé sources its milk from 80,000 farmers across villages in Haryana and Punjab. Before a single drop is accepted into the facility, the raw milk undergoes testing for multiple quality parameters, including:
- Nutrient levels: Protein, fat, and essential nutrients for toddler growth.
- Safety checks: Testing for antibiotic residues and heavy metals.
Checks on Raw Materials
Multiple Quality Checks are performed on raw materials, including:
- Whey Protein: 20+ parameters for mineral profile and microbial safety.
- Lactose: 15+ parameters
- Vitamin Premixes: 40+ parameters to ensure precise nutritional levels.
Checks on Powder Form
Once the powder is produced, the scrutiny continues. The final product undergoes 20+ additional parameter checks focusing on:
- Physical properties: Moisture levels, density, and texture uniformity.
- Nutritional consistency: Ensuring the powder meets exact specifications.
The Human Touch: The Sensory Lab
Even with advanced machinery, Nestlé believes in the power of human judgment. In the Sensory Lab, experts act as the final quality control tool, evaluating the product for:
- Taste and Smell.
- Color and Texture.
- Mouthfeel.
As Dr. Nihar Parekh notes, sometimes a mother’s nose can catch what a machine might miss, ensuring that the final product is safe, clean, and exactly what it should be for a growing child.
